The Youth Group is a valuable resource for the children of our parish and local community. We have a lot of fun together, and do constructive things that benefit one another and the community. Among the messages reinforced to the youth are: a sense of belonging to the parish that they will carry into adulthood, charity and generosity of self, relating to your peers in a positive and non-competitive way, how would Jesus have handled a particular situation, and to recognize the positive roll models and "heroes" in our community i.e. veterans, police, firemen, clergy, etc.. At all meetings and events there's an adult presence to maintain a positive environment though in this author's several years working with St. Michaels youth there has not been a single incident that someone's feelings were even bruised.
So far this year, we've been holding our Youth Group meetings every 2-weeks on Thursday nights with upcoming meetings announced in the Sunday bulletin. Regular meetings open with pizza, refreshments and friendly conversation and always include a fun game or activity. There are monthly community projects that we work on as well as school vacation "field trips" just for fun and the icing on the cake is the annual trip to Six Flags in June to wrap up the year.
