Healthy, faithful and effective churches require leaders that model those characteristics. All churches rise to the level of their leadership, which means the stronger our congregational leaders, both lay and clergy, the stronger our churches will be. But many churches suffer from leadership shortages and an overwhelming sense that too few people are doing too much of the heavy lifting. So how can we raise up, equip and empower healthy, faithful and effective leaders for the future?
The Congregational Development Commission invites all current and future leaders in our churches to Learn and Lead 2014: Forming Faithful Leaders. This daylong seminar will feature a keynote address from Bishop Knisely to set out his vision for Christian leadership in the Diocese of Rhode Island, as well as feature five workshops led by congregational leaders from around the country who will provide concrete ideas and approaches to develop effective leadership in our congregations. Participants will be offered insight into such topics as:
Resources for developing, enabling and equipping leaders- led by the Rev. Linda Grenz, Canon to the Ordinary of the Diocese, founder of LeaderResources, and formerly part of the staff of the Office for Adult Education, Lay Ministry and Leadership Development in the national church.
How to lead planned and sustainable change in healthy, constructive ways- led by Dr. James Burgess, Chair of CDC, Senior Warden at All Saints’ Memorial Church, and a professor of health economics at Boston University.
How church meetings can go beyond agendas and business and foster spiritually healthy leaders-led by the Rev. Jay Sidebotham, Director of RenewalWorks, a spiritual vitality process for churches, and former Rector of Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, IL.
How to lead in the face of anxiety- led by the Rev. Tim Rich, Rector of St. Luke’s in East Greenwich and former Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of New Hampshire.
How to raise up young leaders and engage them in vital ministry-led by the Rev. Meaghan Kelly, Director of the Episcopal Conference Center and coordinator of family ministries for the diocese.
